The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.
The syllabus consists of the following strands:
- number and algebra
- measurement and geometry
- statistics and probability.
In Year 11 and 12, the study of mathematics is optional. Courses offered include:
- Mathematics Extension 2 (Year 12 only)
- Mathematics Extension 1
- Mathematics Advanced
- Mathematics Standard 2
- Mathematics Standard 1 (Optional HSC examination)
- Mathematics Life Skills.

About the Mathematics faculty
The Mathematics faculty comprises a professional and motivated team with extensive experience and creativity. Teachers adopt a focused and analytical approach to learning that is stimulating, inspiring and engaging.
Through a blend of formal instruction, digital learning platforms like Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams that allow the use of technology and practical sessions, students are presented a world of numbers and technology that guides their reasoning, creativity, abstraction and spatial thinking ability, skills that are vital in todays world.
We offer developmental and remedial programs that aim to consolidate, extend and amplify student knowledge and understanding of all maths topics presented in class.

Subjects and courses offered
The Mathematics curriculum is spread out across three stages.
Stage 4 (Year 7 and Year 8)
Our programs in Year 7 and Year 8, focus on Stage 4 of the NSW Mathematics Kindergarten to Year 10 syllabus, and includes:
- Number and Algebra
- Measurement and Geometry
- Statistics and Probability.
Stage 5 (Year 9 and Year 10)
Our programs in Year 9 and Year 10, focus on tage 5 of the NSW Mathematics Kindergarten to Year 10 syllabus, and includes:
- Advanced Mathematics (5.3 course)
- Intermediate Mathematics (5.2 course)
- Standard Mathematics (5.1 course).
Stage 6 (Year 11 and Year 12)
Our programs in Year 11 and Year 12 are developed from the Stage 6 Senior Mathematics syllabus for different levels studied, and includes:
- Mathematics Advanced
- Mathematics Extension 1
- Mathematics Extension 2
- Mathematics Standard 1
- Mathematics Standard 2.

Associations
Our Mathematics teachers are part of a network of teachers in the South Western Sydney region that collaborate to share ideas, principles and strategies relating to mathematical pedagogy and how to best implement it.
To help facilitate this, our staff are affiliated with the following institutions through membership and/or professional development:
- The Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT)
- Mathematical Association of NSW (MANSW)
- Australian College of Educators (ACE).
We also regularly participate in school based professional learning for both mathematics specific content and the wider teaching and learning experience, in addition to school network meetings which allow us to collaborate with schools in our district.
Assessment
Over the year, various forms of assessment tasks are used in Mathematics and Computing to evaluate student learning and understanding in each year group, and for all subjects offered.
All students are provided with an assessment notification at least 2 weeks prior to each scheduled task being held. It is important that students read and understanding this information and seek clarification, where necessary, well in advance of that task occurring.
