Inclusive Education

James Busby High School proudly hosts a large inclusive education setting. Our setting is a safe and welcoming place where students who need extra support can learn and grow. We create small, caring classes where students can learn at their own pace, build confidence and access opportunities in a safe and inclusive space.

Who we support

The inclusive education setting at JBHS helps students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The NSW Department of Education also provide specialist classes and settings that support students with physical disability, mental health diagnosis, sensory processing disorder (including specialist vision and hearing support) and behaviour disorders.

We also help families apply for specialist settings that are best suited to a child's needs and support requirements.

How we support students

Students in inclusive education learn through:

Each student has an individual individual Learning Support Plan (LSP) that helps them:

Our lessons, support and learning plans give students regular check-ins, clear communication with families and close tracking of their strengths and areas for improvement. These plans improve engagement, support stronger learning outcomes and guide smooth transitions through school and beyond.

How students access our support unit

Placement in our inclusive education setting follows an access request process. This helps us understand each student’s needs and plan the right support. The process usually includes:

  1. Meeting with our learning support team to talk about your child’s needs
  2. Providing documents or assessments
  3. Review and recommendation by a specialist panel
  4. Creating an individual Learning Support Plan (LSP) for your child

You can contact our school anytime to ask about our support options and how the process works.

How we work with families and specialists

We work closely with families and specialists to support every student. Our teachers stay in touch with parents and carers to share progress and plan next steps.

We also work with therapists, counsellors and health professionals so students get the same support across school and home.
