Assessment and reporting

Understanding how students are progressing is essential to effective teaching and learning. Our assessment practices, combined with regular reporting, ensure students and families stay informed and engaged in education every step of the way.

Assessment

Assessment is the ongoing process of gathering, analysing and reflecting on evidence of student achievement, by our teachers, to inform our judgements on how to improve future learning.

Our teachers use a range of formal and informal assessment strategies to inform their practice and engage with students and their parents about their progress. Assessments occur throughout the course of the year and we provide detailed information to students about what is expected from them throughout the school year and how their work will be assessed.

Reporting

Reporting provides feedback to students, parents, and other teachers about student progress.

As a parent or carer, you’ll receive a written report twice a year. It gives you a clear picture of your child’s achievements – what they know and can do.

In Year 7 to 10, we report using the A to E common grade scales to describe how well students have achieved. Teachers make professional on-balance judgements to decide which grade description best matches the standards their students have achieved at a particular point in time. These decisions are based on evidence of achievement and information teachers have collected during the teaching and learning.

In senior years (Year 11 & 12) student achievement is reported against a set of achievement standards. These standards are based on what students are expected to learn at each stage and measured against how well they meet those expectations. This A to E grade allocated to a student and reflects the level of achievement demonstrated by the student.
